There may not have been any sun, but everyone dressed in pink brightened the day in the spirit of the the Wachtel family, the McGrath Foundation and the Keith and District Hospital.
The day started and ended very wet with 20mm of rain, but despite thisover 60people teed offwith the Wachtel family, andsome finished nineholes whileothersfinishedfive.
There may have been somegreens were under water but that didn’t dampen theenthusiasm.
After the golf, the action continued with the footy on the big screen, a pig on the spit and drinks included for the $25 package that brought in a local crowd of 140.
The entertainment began with a chipping comp, a chocolate wheel and then the largely anticipated beard shave of seven brave men.
PeteMcAuley who is the bar manager at the golf club was one of the organizers and shaved his beard off on the night.
He said “Most of the fellows were keen to get theirwhiskers off after threemonths of people not recognizing us.
“There have been no kisses from my kids or wife, and the itching and scratching, I don’t know how they do it all the time.”
Shaun Groth, who also had his beard shaved said he would do it all again at the drop of a hat.
The auction on the night was a great success and actuallyraised more than half the proceeds for the entire event.
“Itis a true indication of what the Keith people are willing to give back to there community” said Pete.
All up, the big day raised $19,000 which will beshared betweenThe Wachtel Family, The McGrath Foundation and The Keith and District Hospital .
Chairman of the Keith hospital Janet Allen said they were very grateful for the $7500 donation .
“We are commencing the development of a palliative care suit and plan to put the money towards this project.
“The upgrade and staff training will add to the comfort of patients and their families when they are most in need .
“We thank the Keith community for there continued generous support , which our hospital relies on.”
Petesaid the small committee was overwhelmed by the amount raised .
“The Pink Pig Committee would sincerely like to thank all the businesses and persons, about 80 in all who gave to the Auction and other aspects of the day .
“We had people donating cash because they couldn’tmake it on the day.”
Other generous donations includedKeith B&C grade netballerswho threw intheirend of season get together money.
Noel Evans, another donor gave uphis mustache of 34 years for a price tag of $500.00.
“All these reasons made it a great thing to be part of” said Pete.
To top it all off,Mark Wachtel received a nice surprise with aphone call from Glen McGrath himself, to which Mark asked“is that really the Glen McGrath “.
Glenstated to Mark thatthe main thing is to stay positive.
