RELOCATION company Wridgways Australia Ltd expects to deliver a big jump in net profit this year as the resources boom and buoyant economic conditions help boost corporate confidence and employee mobility.
The Melbourne-based moving company has predicted its 2005-2006 net profit will be 45 per cent above last year, equating to about $3.63 million, due to strong growth in earnings in its international business and buoyant economic conditions.
Wridgways managing director Des Stickland yesterday said the upbeat climate had led to increased confidence among corporate employees.
“Generally, the relocation market is very, very active and has been all year,” Mr Stickland said.
“And we think it will probably be maintained for the next two or three years, unless of course, there is a 9/11 or a SARS or something like that, that would impact the confidence of the corporate sector.”
He said the resources sector was a big driver of the market, with companies looking to plug labour shortages by relocating people from interstate and overseas.
“Companies are paying people big incentives to relocate to places in boom; Western Queensland and Western Australia,” he said.
There were also a lot of employees coming in from places like South America, Canada and South Africa to meet the need in the booming resources sector, he said.
